How work study works

Your financial aid statement might include an amount for a work-study job, but there is no guarantee that you’ll be able to get a work-study job. So it’s important not to rely on that amount to help offset the cost of college.

In addition, if you do get a work-study job, you are only allowed to earn up to the amount specified in your financial aid award. That means once you’ve hit this threshold, you’re done with your job. So in some instances, if you’re planning to work in college anyway, it might make more sense to get an off-campus college job, where your earnings would be unlimited.
